Japan's longest covered shopping street, stretching approximately 2.6 km from south to north with about 600 shops spanning from the 1st to 7th blocks. Freshly fried croquettes, takoyaki, bean candies, and traditional Japanese sweets appear in endless succession—all affordable and delicious, keeping your feet moving as you sample. Overhead, decorations featuring Tenjin Festival-related welcoming figures and torii gates adorn the arcade, infusing it with genuine Osaka downtown charm. This street holds special appeal across generations: grandparents find nostalgia in old-fashioned greengrocer and dried-goods shops, while grandchildren's eyes light up at unfamiliar storefronts. The entire stretch is covered by an arcade, making it comfortable to walk even on rainy days or hot summer afternoons.

Tips

The southern end connects to Minamimorimachi Station (南森町駅), and the northern end to Tenjinbashi-suji 6-chome Station (天神橋筋六丁目駅). The Sakaisuji subway line runs parallel beneath the street, so you can hop on for one station if you get tired. Most popular food stalls accept cash only, so carry plenty of coins. Weekday mid-day crowds mean popular shops are best visited in the morning.

Best time to visit

Allow approximately 2 hours. After 10 am, when shops are fully open, through late morning is the best time for sampling
