A municipal museum in Osaka dedicated to "housing and living," located in a building directly connected to Tenjinbashi-suji 6-chome Station (地下鉄天神橋筋六丁目駅). The highlight is a stunning full-scale recreation of an Osaka townscape from the early Tenpō era (1830s), spread across an entire floor. You can actually walk down the street lined with merchant houses and peek into shop interiors. Lighting and sound effects show the progression from morning through nightfall. Another floor showcases the homes and daily life of Osaka from the Meiji through Showa periods in detailed scale models. Grandparents find it nostalgic, children find it fresh and eye-opening—a place where natural, multigenerational conversation flows, perfect for a brief stop while exploring the shopping street.

Tips

The reception desk is on the 8th floor of the building directly connected to Exit 3 of Tenjinbashi-suji 6-chome Station, at the north end of the shopping street. General admission is ¥600; middle school students and younger are free; those 65+ with proof of Osaka residency are free—wallet-friendly for three generations. Popular with overseas visitors and can get crowded after midday. Elevators make it accessible with strollers.

Best time to visit

Allow approximately 1 hour. Visiting right after opening or during midday avoids group tours and allows more leisurely viewing
