Japan's first comprehensive children's museum, built on the concept of "learning through play." Its iconic feature is "Children's Street" (こどもの街), designed by Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser, a three-dimensional labyrinth of flowing curves and vibrant colors featuring suspension bridges and slides where children lose themselves in play. Other highlights include interactive science experiences exploring water and air, pretend-play shops, and more. Separate toddler areas mean even families with widely spaced children or multi-generational visitors can proceed at their own pace. Adults can supervise while participating, making it perfect for an afternoon together across three generations.
Tips
Just outside Exit 2 of Ogi-cho Station (地下鉄堺筋線・扇町駅) on the Sakaisuji subway line, also about a 3-minute walk from JR Tenmashi Station. Admission: ¥1,400 for adults, ¥800 for elementary and middle school students, ¥500 for preschoolers (age 3+). The water play area tends to get sleeves and pants wet, so bring a change of clothes and towel. The museum has a stroller parking area and nursing room. Weekends and holidays get crowded, so the afternoon is relatively calmer.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 2 hours. On weekends, the afternoon is somewhat quieter than opening hours
