Walk Through the Vermillion Thousand Torii Gates to the Inner Shrine and Try the Famous Omokaru Stone
About this spot
The head shrine of Inari shrines nationwide, said to number approximately 30,000, with a magnificent vermillion-painted gate and the entire Inari Mountain serving as sacred ground. The main attraction is the Thousand Torii Gates, where donated gates stretch endlessly. The tunnel of vermillion gates with dappled sunlight filtering through is enchanting, and as a couple walking together, conversation naturally flows. At the inner shrine worship hall is the 'Omokaru Stone,' where you can divine the fulfillment of wishes by the weight when lifted—a fun souvenir moment for your date. The grounds are open 24 hours for worship, and the approach path features votive tablets shaped like foxes and amulets that become cherished memories for couples. If you have the stamina, it's also recommended to extend your walk to Yotsuji, where you can enjoy a panoramic view of Kyoto city.
Tips

During the day, the Thousand Torii Gates become crowded with visitors from around the world, so for leisurely photography, arrival by 9 a.m. is recommended. Beyond the inner shrine, there are continuous stone steps going up and down, so wear comfortable shoes. Worship is free of charge.
Best time to visit
Approximately 2 hours required. Early morning before the crowds allows for peaceful walks through the Thousand Torii Gates and easier photography.
