A complex resort designed by architect Tadao Ando and opened in 2000. This place holds the story of regeneration—a mountainside once stripped of earth to fill land for Kansai International Airport has been brought back to life with greenery and flowers. The symbolic "Hyakudan Garden" (One Hundred Steps Garden) is a spectacular space where 100 flower beds line a slope in stair-step fashion; reaching the top rewards you with a view extending all the way to Osaka Bay. The architectural walk features constantly changing vistas with concrete corridors, water basins, and the "Shell Beach" with its shell-lined path—even adults will be captivated. The grounds also include hotels and restaurants, perfect for a lunch break while gazing at the sea. The stroll itself is free admission, making this a spot worth exploring leisurely while taking photos.
Tips
Connected directly to the Dream Butai Central Entrance of Akashi Kaikyo National Park, so you can walk between them without moving your car. The Hyakudan Garden has many stairs, so wear comfortable walking shoes; for those with small children, carrying harnesses are recommended. Restaurants get crowded after noon, so arriving before 11 AM ensures smoother entry.
Best time to visit
About 1.5 hours. The smoothest flow is to enter a restaurant early around noon, then stroll through the Hyakudan Garden afterward.
