Walk slowly along the gravel pathway through dappled sunlight and pray quietly

About this spot

Located on the northeastern slope of Unebi Mountain, directly north of Kashihara Jingu, this is the mausoleum of Emperor Jinmu, the first emperor, and is managed by the Imperial Household Agency. Upon entering, a broad gravel pathway extends straight ahead, flanked by tall trees on both sides. The sight of a large torii gate and prayer place standing quietly at the end of the pathway through dappled sunlight is solemn and serene. The quietness—a world apart from bustling tourist spots—where only the sound of footsteps on gravel echoes, leaves an impression on both grandparents and grandchildren. Walking here together with Kashihara Jingu deepens one's understanding of the story of 'the birthplace of Japan.' Prayers are free and voluntary, and even a leisurely stroll takes only about 30 minutes, making it ideal for a three-generation walk.

Tips

About a 10-minute walk from the north approach of Kashihara Jingu, or from Kintetsu Unebi-Goryō-mae Station, allowing you to navigate the route smoothly without strain. Admission is free and open to the public. The gravel is fairly deep, so wear well-worn shoes. There are no shops or vending machines nearby, so bring your own beverages. As this is a quiet sacred site, it helps to let children know in advance to speak quietly. Approximately 30 minutes. The dappled sunlight and quiet atmosphere of late morning create a peaceful experience.
