The museum attached to the Nara Prefectural Kashihara Archaeological Institute, sometimes called the 'Mecca of Japanese archaeology,' primarily exhibits authentic artifacts excavated from sites throughout the prefecture, displaying the period from the Paleolithic Age through the Muromachi period in chronological order. The highlight is artifacts from Fujino Tomb, designated as a National Treasure, where the refined craftsmanship of gilt-bronze horse trappings leaves adults breathless. Pottery, haniwa figurines, and burial goods from ancient tombs line the displays, and there is genuine joy in encountering the 'real thing' seen in textbooks. Tips
About a 5-minute walk from Kintetsu Unebi-Goryō-mae Station and accessible on foot from Emperor Jinmu's Mausoleum. Admission is a reasonable 400 yen for adults, and free parking is available.
