Enjoy barefoot wading games on the pristine white sand beach
About this spot
Shirahama's symbol beach, featuring fine white sand stretching along an arc of approximately 620 meters. The fine quartz sand is pleasant underfoot, and children become engrossed in wading at the shoreline or building sand castles, losing track of time. The beach has a sister-beach relationship with Waikiki Beach in Hawaii, and the contrast of palm trees and blue sea creates a tropical resort-like atmosphere. While it's a premier swimming beach in the Kansai region during summer, it's enjoyable for walks and sand play even in non-swimming seasons. Family photos set against the white sand and blue sea will become the treasured memory of your trip.
Tips
Just a short walk from Shiraurahama bus stop; there are paid parking lots in the surrounding area (during summer they fill up, so arrive early). The beach has foot-washing stations and restrooms, but bring towels and a change of clothes since you'll get wet from sand and seawater. During hot summer days, the sand becomes very hot, so sandals are recommended.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 1 hour. The white sand and blue sea are most photogenic in the bright afternoon light.
