Lunch by the lake on a bench and photograph the tama train crossing the red wooden bridge
About this spot
A free admission park spreading along the shores of the large reservoir 'Oike' immediately upon exiting Oike Yuuen Station on the Kishu Line. The main attraction is the sight of the train crossing the red bridge spanning the pond. The strawberry train and tama train can be viewed from the lakeside as they run just above the water surface, making this a favorite photography spot along the line, beloved by railway enthusiasts. Benches line the lakeside, perfect for spreading out a bento lunch and relaxing. Trains arrive at roughly 30-minute intervals, so waiting for the next one while eating becomes part of the enjoyment. In spring, the lakeside is also a famous cherry blossom viewing spot, and its pastoral, serene character makes you want to return in different seasons.
Tips
Just a short walk from Oike Yuuen Station. There are almost no shops or convenience stores in the vicinity, so purchase your bento and drinks at Wakayama Station or nearby before boarding. Photographs are typically taken from the lakeside promenade; checking the timetable in advance will help you capture the perfect moment. Restroom availability is limited, so have children use them early for peace of mind.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. Spread your bento during lunch hours and enjoy relaxing, timed with the train schedules.
