About this spot
A white-sand beach stretching directly in front of Tanabe's city center, named after the fan-shaped curve of its coastline. While bustling with swimmers in summer, the beach becomes a quiet walking path with only the sound of waves during other seasons. A park and promenade line the waterfront, perfect for couples to sit on a bench and gaze leisurely at Tanabe Bay. On clear days, a gentle horizon stretches endlessly, and thanks to the mild climate, it's pleasant even in winter. The beach is within walking distance of Toshin Shrine and the Minakata Kumagusu Memorial Hall, making it ideal for a rest break during your town exploration and easily incorporated into your itinerary before lunch. The footprints of you both on the sand and shell hunting turn casual moments into lasting travel memories.
Tips
Just under a 10-minute walk from JR Kii-Tanabe Station and immediately accessible from the city center. A paid municipal parking lot is available along the waterfront, making it convenient for a drive-by visit. Outside the summer swimming season, fewer crowds mean leisurely strolling. Limited shade, so sunscreen, a hat, and water are recommended, especially in summer.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 50 minutes. A seaside walk in the bright hours before lunch is particularly refreshing.
