The "Kishu Binchotan Discovery Hall" exhibition explains the traditional method of firing Ubamegashi wood at high temperatures, the history of charcoal, and its modern applications; visitors are amazed by the hardness of binchotan, which produces a metallic ring when struck. Outdoor charcoal kilns are also on display, letting you sense the living charcoal-making culture in the mountain valley setting. The gift shop features a variety of charcoal-based goods and foods, including distinctive charcoal wind chimes with a clear, ringing tone—a delightful opportunity for souvenir shopping. Tips

Located in the mountain setting of Akitsu River district, approximately 20 minutes by car from JR Kii-Tanabe Station.
