About this spot
A beach with white sand stretching along the Lake Biwa shoreline, this spot is perfect for young children's first water play experience due to its shallow, calm waters. The water quality, which earned it selection as one of "Japan's 88 Water Bathing Spots," is excellent, and the transparent lakewater is irresistibly inviting. Unlike ocean water, the freshwater doesn't feel sticky, making post-play cleanup easier—a welcome point for families. A pine forest stretches behind the sandy beach, providing shady spots to spread out a leisure sheet and rest comfortably. Summer offers lakeside swimming, while other seasons provide sand play, stone skipping, and lakeside walks. With an adjacent auto-camping ground, combining daytime camping or barbecue activities is also recommended.
Tips
Located just a 10-minute walk from JR Kosei Line Makino Station, making it easily accessible by train. By car, during summer swimming season parking becomes paid and weekends get crowded, so allow extra time. The lake bottom contains small stones in some areas; water shoes for children are a good precaution. Restrooms and shower facilities can be accessed via the adjacent campground.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1.5 hours required. In the afternoon, water temperature rises, making water play ideal; as evening approaches, the lake surface takes on soft light.
