Stroll through an English-style garden and enjoy lunch at the on-site restaurant
About this spot
An experiential tourist garden sprawling across a hilltop in Yonehara, also known for its farm garden recreating the world of "Shaun the Sheep." The well-maintained English garden features roses and perennials blooming seasonally, with late May through June's rose season being particularly magnificent. A charming miniature train called the Rosen Railroad Milky Way runs through the grounds, and pastoral scenes of sheep grazing unfold across the landscape. The facility offers craft experiences and dining at the restaurant, with each family member finding their own joy—grandmothers in the flowers, mothers ready with cameras, and children captivated by the sheep and train. Three generations each discover their own enjoyment here. From the hilltop, enjoy a sweeping view of the pastoral satoyama (village mountain) landscape with Ibuki Mountain in the distance.
Tips
Approximately 15 minutes by car from Yonehara Station, with free parking available. The grounds are expansive with some slopes, so wear comfortable walking shoes. The hilltop area is easily accessed via the Rosen Railroad (separate fare required), which is gentle on the legs and thrills children. The restaurant gets crowded around lunch time, so arriving early for your meal is recommended. Roses are at their peak from late May through June and again in October.
Best time to visit
Approximately 2.5 hours. Late morning through early afternoon, including lunch, is ideal for leisurely exploration
