Search for Safe Return Frog Figurines Along the Seaside Path and Pray to Sarutahiko Okami

About this spot

This shrine is located in Futami Ura, a sacred site where people historically performed purification rituals on the beach before visiting Ise Grand Shrine. It enshrines Sarutahiko Okami, known as the kami of pathfinding. Frog figurines and stone statues inspired by the lucky charm 'safe return frog' are scattered throughout the seaside path and grounds—walking with children and excitedly spotting them creates wonderful memories. The shrine grounds even feature a 'wish-fulfilling frog' at the water basin, said to grant wishes when water is poured over it. Set right beside the shore, the shrine is enveloped in sea breeze and wave sounds, making it perfect for a morning walk. Celebrated for blessings of good fortune in marriage and household safety, the seaside path leading to Meoto Iwa offers beautiful views—an ideal starting point for a family day.

Tips

About 15 minutes walk from JR Sangu Line Futami Ura Station toward the sea. By car, parking lots near Futami Ura Park or on the Ise Sea Paradise side are convenient. The path is maintained flat and easy for strollers, though coastal areas can be windy, so bring a jacket. Morning visits have fewer crowds and crystal-clear air, perfect for worship.

Best time to visit

Approximately 40 minutes. Early morning worship when crowds are light and air is crisp is highly recommended.
