Next stop: Rest with Futami's Famous Gofukumochi and Tea. The Gentle Sweetness Warms Your HeartAbout this spot
This historic structure was built in 1887 (Meiji 20) as a rest and lodging facility for distinguished guests visiting Ise Grand Shrine, and is designated as a National Important Cultural Property. The venerable halls once hosted imperial family members and showcase Meiji-to-Taisho era craftsmanship throughout—including the stunning 120-tatami grand hall, formal coffered ceilings, and finely detailed lattice transoms. The well-maintained garden framed views of the Futami sea are masterfully designed, captivating adults while children marvel at the spacious tatami rooms. Since visitors remove shoes indoors, families with small children can explore comfortably. This spot allows you to feel the historical significance of Futami Ura as a place of hospitality.
Tips
About 5 minutes walk from Meoto Iwa through the inn-district street. Wear easy-to-remove shoes since you'll go barefoot inside. The building has stairs, so leave strollers at the entrance and a baby carrier is helpful. Closed Tuesdays (or the next day if Tuesday is a holiday)—verify opening hours before visiting.
Best time to visit
Approximately 50 minutes. Soft morning light beautifully illuminates the grand hall and gardens.
