About this spot
This large aquarium boasts approximately 1,200 species, the most in Japan, and is nationally known as the only place in Japan where you can see a dugong. Highlights include the charming sea otters' mealtime, finless porpoises that also inhabit Ise Bay swimming leisurely, and hilarious walrus performances—one wonder after another for animal-loving children. The facility is connected by approximately 1.5 km of pathways with no set route, allowing you to freely explore your favorite zones at your own pace. From the large tank recreating a coral reef sea to the "Mysterious Creatures Research Lab" where you can encounter giant isopods, you can leisurely enjoy 12 themed zones at your family's pace.
Tips
About 10 minutes walk along the coast from Toba Station. There is no set route inside, so it's efficient to check the location of the dugong tank and the walrus show times on the map first. Though the pathways extend about 1.5 km, there are few steps, making it easy to navigate with a stroller. The facility also has restaurants and rest areas.
Best time to visit
Approximately 2.5 hours required. The early morning right after opening is least crowded, allowing you to view the popular dugong tank leisurely.
