About this spot

A water and greenery park developed on the former site of the main and secondary enclosures of Kuwana Castle. Much of the park is occupied by the moat, creating an abundance of waterside scenery with pathways and bridges that wind around it, offering changing views with each step. In spring, cherry blossoms, and in early summer, azaleas and Japanese irises adorn the moat's edge. Long cherished as a gathering place for locals, the park houses the Chinkoku-Shukoku Shrine (鎮国守国神社), associated with the Kuwana clan. Stone walls from demolished towers and the moat's waters preserve echoes of the castle town's past. Scattered benches invite you to rest while feeling the breeze crossing the moat—an aquatic oasis perfect for a leisurely pause during your town walk.

Tips

Free admission and always open. About a 10-minute walk from the Shichiri-no-Watashi ruins; the moat-side path is mostly flat and easy to walk. Bring your own beverages as shops within the park are limited. April's cherry blossoms and early June's iris blooms are particularly spectacular but crowded; for a leisurely pace, visit on weekdays or in the morning.

Best time to visit

Allow just over 1 hour. The shade and waterside keep the walk pleasant even during midday heat.
