Lunch at the Long-Established Birthplace of Pork Donburi: Charcoal-Grilled Sweet and Savory Pork Bowl

About this spot

Established in Showa 8 (1933), this historic shop is said to be the birthplace of Obihiro's signature pork donburi. Inspired by grilled eel, the dish uses pork from the Tokachi region, famous for pork farming. The meat is charcoal-grilled and topped with rice, coated in a sweet-and-savory sauce based on sugar and soy sauce. The charcoal-grilled loin is fragrant, and the sauce-soaked rice is absolutely irresistible. The menu is divided by meat portions into "Pine, Bamboo, Plum, and Flower" grades, letting everyone choose according to appetite—perfect for a three-generation trip. Located right near Obihiro Station, this popular shop often has lines during lunch hours. Savoring this signature Tokachi dish at the birthplace in this historic setting will deepen your memories of the Obihiro gourmet journey.

Tips

About 3 minutes walk from the north exit of JR Obihiro Station. Lines often form at lunch time, so visiting right after opening or timing your visit off-peak is recommended. Check for closure days (such as Mondays) before visiting. It's best to bring cash.
