About this spot

An artificial sandy beach that spreads out right in front of the roadside station, nestled beside the hot spring town. With calm waves and a shallow, gently sloping shore, Yu-no-shima island, Asamushi's symbol, floats offshore, creating a picturesque scene beyond the children playing in the sand. It gets lively as a swimming beach in summer, but even outside the season, you can enjoy strolling along the water's edge and collecting shells, and its scale makes it just right for a small child's first encounter with the sea. True to its name, it's also known as a spot famous for sunsets, and the sight of the sun setting into Mutsu Bay, dyeing the water's surface orange, is one of Asamushi's signature views. After seeing marine life at the aquarium, playing in the real sea lets children connect what they saw in a picture book with the real thing, making this a beach for that kind of experience.

Tips

Just across the pedestrian overpass from the roadside station Michi-no-Eki Yu-sa Asamushi. It's reassuring to bring a sand play set, a change of clothes, and a plastic bag for wet items. The beach gets crowded during the summer swimming season, so keep your belongings to a minimum. There's little shade, so don't forget a hat and to stay hydrated.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 15 minutes. The bright afternoon hours are best for playing, and staying until evening lets you experience the beach's true reputation as a sunset spot
