An upper-deck arched bridge spanning the deep gorge carved by the Jogakura stream, with a total length of 360 meters. The arch span of 255 meters makes it one of Japan's largest bridges of this type, and the distance from the bridge to the gorge floor is approximately 120 meters. Looking down from the walkway at the gorge offers an awe-inspiring sense of height that makes your legs tremble, and from the bridge with nothing obstructing the view, you can see the entire Hakkoda mountain range, and on clear days, even Mount Iwaki. During new foliage and autumn color seasons, the entire gorge becomes vividly colored, transforming the bridge itself into an excellent observation platform. With parking areas set up at both ends, it's recommended to park your car and walk across, photographing from different angles on the gorge and mountain sides to compare. Among the spots on this drive, the balance between accessibility and impact is outstanding.
Tips
About 10 minutes by car from Hakkoda Ropeway Foothills Station. Free parking is available at both ends of the bridge, and you can walk across on the pedestrian walkway. Parking is prohibited on the bridge, so always photograph from the walkway. On windy days, watch out for hats and small items being blown away.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 45 minutes. The midday sun allows light to reach to the bottom of the gorge, emphasizing the depth of the canyon even more.
