Gaze over the Pacific Ocean from a castle-like observation deck and take a break with the famous local soft serve ice cream

About this spot

A stone observation deck reminiscent of a European castle stands at the tip of a promontory jutting into the Pacific Ocean. During the final stages of World War II, this site hosted military facilities of the Imperial Japanese Army; today it is enjoyed as Tanedasshi Coast's premier viewing spot. Climbing the observation deck reveals a breathtaking 360-degree panorama of the Pacific, with white-capped waves crashing against rugged rock formations. On clear days, the blue gradient between sea and sky elicits spontaneous exclamations of awe. This location marks the starting point of the Tanedasshi Coast promenade, with a seaside path continuing from Osuka Beach (大須賀海岸) to the Tanedasshi Natural Grassland (種差天然芝生地). The adjacent shop's signature soft serve ice cream makes a perfect companion for the afternoon beach walk and serves as an ideal place for a light meal and rest before heading out.

Tips

Approximately 5 minutes by car from Marient; also accessible by regional bus or along the seaside path on foot. The wind is strong at the cape's tip, so be careful that your hat doesn't blow away. The adjacent shop, Horonbairu (ホロンバイル), can become crowded, so allow plenty of time for your visit.

Best time to visit

Allow approximately 45 minutes. Just before or after midday when the air is clear offers crisp views to the horizon, making it ideal as a departure point for the promenade walk.
