About this spot
A flagship family spot in Hanamaki where you can experience the fairytale world of Miyazawa Kenji with your whole body. The main facility "Kenji's School" consists of five zones—the Fantasy Hall followed by zones of universe, sky, earth, and water—with mirror-covered spaces and lighting effects that thrill children. At the log cabin "Kenji's Classroom," you can have fun learning about plants, animals, stars, birds, and stones featured in his fairytales. Throughout the grounds, there are also a fairy path and alpine flower gardens, making the forest walk itself feel like a scene from a fairytale. You can spend plenty of time immersed in the worlds of "Night on the Galactic Railroad" and "Restaurant of Many Orders," enjoying the experience with your whole family.
Tips
About 3 minutes by car from JR Shin-Hanamaki Station, with free parking available. While the Kenji's School facility requires an admission ticket, the grounds can be explored freely. A combined admission ticket with the Miyazawa Kenji Memorial Museum is also available—check at the reception desk. The grounds are extensive, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes or longer. Early morning right after opening is less crowded, and a forest walk in the morning light is particularly pleasant.
