Savor the Specialty Napolitan Cutlet and 10-Tier Spiral Soft Ice Cream at the Retro Showa Dining Hall

About this spot

Located on the 6th floor of the Marukan Building in central Hanamaki, this local soul spot retains the atmosphere of a Showa-era department store dining hall. The spacious floor with its array of tables, food sample display cases, and meal ticket system is full of nostalgia at every turn. The specialty is a 10-tier spiral soft ice cream standing about 25 cm high, eaten with chopsticks in Hanamaki style. In addition to "Napolitan Cutlet," a dish of tonkatsu served over Napolitan, the menu offers an abundance of Japanese, Western, and Chinese dishes, with generous portions and reasonable prices that are true to a grand dining hall. A challenge to eat the chopstick soft ice cream as a family will undoubtedly become your trip's most memorable moment.

Tips

About 15 minutes on foot from JR Hanamaki Station; by car, use parking areas in the vicinity. Lunch time draws long lines due to its popularity, so coming a bit earlier or later is recommended. Since you purchase meal tickets before finding a seat, securing a spot first and then deciding on your menu will go smoothly.

Best time to visit

Approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. Arriving around 1 p.m., just before the lunch rush, ensures relatively smooth entry.
