An Outstanding Rose Garden in Northeast Japan with Kenji's Designed Sundial Flower Bed

Located in a corner of Hanamaki Hot Spring, this outstanding rose garden in northeast Japan spans approximately 5,000 tsubo and showcases over 450 varieties and 6,000 roses in bloom. Originally the South Slope Flower Bed where Miyazawa Kenji was involved in the design, the garden still retains Kenji's designed sundial flower bed, telling of his connection along with a poetry monument. During peak season, roses of various colors and fragrances fill the garden, and family photos set against arches and pathways look like pages from a picture book. Concluding your Kenji-focused day, which began at the fairytale village, with the flower landscape Kenji designed deepens the aftertaste of your journey. Walking while playing a flower name quiz will keep children engaged until the end.
Tips
About 20 minutes by car from central Hanamaki, with free parking available. Admission varies by the rose bloom conditions; the garden may be free during off-bloom seasons. Peak bloom times are early summer and autumn, and for enjoying the fragrance, visiting during hours before temperatures peak is recommended.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour. The soft evening light beautifully illuminates the roses, making it perfect for a closing stroll of the day.
