Free-Admission Energy Hall and Tropical Botanical Garden Warmed by Power Plant Heat
About this spot
This is a PR facility of Tohoku Electric Power adjacent to Noshiro Thermal Power Station, where you can see, touch, and learn about how electricity and energy work—all with free admission. The main attraction is a tropical botanical garden that uses waste heat from the power station to cultivate tropical plants. The sight of bananas, palms, and other tropical greenery thriving under the Akita sky is delightfully surprising and sure to astonish children. The energy exhibits perfectly extend the scientific curiosity heightened at the Children's Hall earlier. An outdoor plaza is also available for children to move around and rest. For a free facility, it's remarkably well-equipped and serves as a reliable backup for rainy days—a hidden gem of Noshiro tourism.
Tips
About 10 minutes by car from Noshiro City Children's Hall, with free parking available. Closure days are observed, so confirm opening hours before your visit. The facility is mostly indoors, so you can enjoy it regardless of weather; however, the tropical garden is warm, so dress in layers you can remove.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour required. Morning before lunch is less crowded, allowing you to leisurely enjoy both exhibits and the botanical garden.
