A strikingly red-lacquered hall dedicated to Ono no Komachi, the Heian-era poetess renowned as a woman of extraordinary beauty, standing in Ono village in Yuzawa City where her birth legend endures. The vivid red structure stands out beautifully against the rural landscape and has become a beloved symbol of the birthplace and a place of prayer for those honoring Komachi's memory. Nearby you'll find scattered historic sites including the Mirror Pond (Sugata-mi no Ike), where Komachi is said to have seen her reflection, and a cave grotto where she is believed to have spent her final years. You can enjoy a leisurely walk tracing fragments of the legend while contemplating the elegant world depicted in classical poetry. Tips

About a 5-minute drive from Michi no Eki Ogachi Komachi no Sato; there is a parking area and entry to the hall is free. Historic sites related to Komachi are scattered within walking distance, so if time permits, consider exploring the surrounding area. The roads along the rice fields have little shade, so bring a hat or parasol for protection.
