About this spot

Called "the Enoshima of Tohoku" for its scenery formed by Hakusan Island floating offshore and the vermillion-colored bridge, this is a scenic destination representative of Shonai. This beach, selected by the Ministry of the Environment as one of Japan's 100 finest swimming beaches, features pristine water, a white sandy shore that curves gently, and calm waves—perfect for young children's sand play and seaside strolls. Beyond Hakusan Island, the Japan Sea stretches endlessly; the landscape, changing with season and time, is beautiful enough to admire indefinitely. While crowded in summer, the beach is equally pleasant for family outings in other seasons, with shell collecting and sandcastle building. Exploring it together with Hakusan Island offers a concentrated taste of Shonai's coastal charm.

Tips

About 15 minutes by car from Kamo Aquarium; parking is available near the beach. During summer beach season, it can get crowded, so morning or late afternoon is more comfortable for sand play. Wet sand sticks to clothes easily, so bring a change of clothes and towels for children. Restroom facilities are available throughout the beach area.

Best time to visit

Plan for approximately 1 hour. Daytime is best for sand play. Continue on to the bridge walk on Hakusan Island.
