Crossing the Vermillion Bridge for a Scenic Walk Around the Island
About this spot
A small island floating just offshore from Yura Beach, accessible by walking across a vermillion-colored bridge from the beach. From the bridge, transparent sea spreads beneath your feet, and children are thrilled searching for shadows of swimming fish as they cross. At the island's peak stands Hakusan Shrine, and a scenic walking trail circles the entire island. The area is known as a favorite fishing spot, and fishing ponds accessible to children sometimes operate during summer. The contrast between the rugged rocky cliffs and the blue sea is distinctly characteristic of the Japan Sea, and the composition capturing both the vermillion bridge and island together is this course's best photo opportunity. Sitting on a bench and gazing at the sea while feeling the sea breeze becomes a memorable keepsake of your trip.
Tips
Reached in moments by walking across the vermillion bridge from Yura Beach. The bridge can be quite windy, so ensure hats don't blow away. The trail around the island takes about 15 minutes, but since it passes near rocky areas, hold hands with small children for safety. Visiting Hakusan Shrine requires climbing stone steps.
Best time to visit
Plan for approximately 1 hour. Afternoons with clear air offer brilliant blues and wonderfully refreshing views from the bridge.
