Search for Souvenirs at a Rest Area Where Shonai's Sea and Mountain Treasures Come Together
About this spot
A rest area along National Route 7, nestled between Chokaisan Mountain and the Sea of Japan in Fukiura, Yusa Town—the perfect place to conclude your journey where treasures from the Shonai coast and Chokaisan foothills converge. The fresh seafood direct-sales section displays fish and shellfish from Fukiura Port and elsewhere, and in summer, you can taste the specialty natural rock oysters on the spot. The farm produce direct-sales section carries Yusa's specialty paparika, seasonal vegetables, and rice grown in Chokaisan's spring water—allowing you to take home the memory of a day spent surrounded by spring-water blessings. The light meal corner offers signature items like "Bakudan Onigiri" (literally "bomb rice ball")—rice balls made with whole country chicken simmered together—perfect for satisfying a light appetite and convenient for a driving break or souvenir hunting.
Tips
About 5 minutes by car from the Sixteen Arhat Rocks, conveniently located along National Route 7 with ample parking. Fresh seafood and prepared items often sell out in the evening, so visit earlier in the day for the best selection. If taking perishables, a cooler bag is recommended. Operating hours vary seasonally, so check ahead.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 1 hour. Visit in the evening before heading home. If targeting rock oysters, summer mornings through midday are your best bet.
