Located at the foot of Iimori Mountain, this memorial museum houses materials related to the Byakko Corps and the Boshin War. Established in 1956 with private funds by local attorney Hayakawa Kiyoji, it exhibits a wealth of items including personal effects and letters from Byakko soldiers, weapons from the time of the Boshin War, and materials related to people connected to the Aizu domain. Confronting the handwritten notes and portraits of young soldiers brings the Boshin War from textbook history into vivid reality. The museum also displays materials on the Shinsengumi and the women warriors (Joushigun) and other figures involved in the Aizu War, making it a place where history enthusiasts will find conversation flowing endlessly before the exhibits. This facility serves as the learning center of the course, where historical materials substantiate the landscape you observed at Iimori Mountain.

Tips

Located near the entrance to Iimori Mountain's approach path, making it convenient to stop on your way down from the mountain. The museum's exhibits feature many written materials, so plan to spend adequate time. Admission is paid; having cash on hand is advisable. The surrounding approach path is lined with dining spots and souvenir shops, making it easy to find lunch after your visit.

Best time to visit

Allow about 1 hour. Entering before noon helps you avoid tour groups. You can head straight to lunch at nearby spots along the approach afterward.
