Named after Lake Inawashiro's alternate name, "Tenkyo Lake" (Heaven's Mirror Lake), it is designated as a National Important Cultural Property. The white wood-sided exterior with its distinctive red-roofed tower resembles a fairy-tale castle, and throughout the mansion—in the parlor with its chandelier, the fireplace, and the spiral staircase—Meiji-era charm is evident. With a dress-up experience in period clothing (fee applies) and a tea room, grandchildren can feel like royalty while grandparents admire the Meiji architectural details, making it enjoyable across generations. Gazing at the lake from the mansion nestled among the woods on a hilltop allows the memories of your day in Inawashiro to settle peacefully in your heart—a fitting finale to your journey.

Tips

About 15 minutes by drive from central Inawashiro, located on a high ridge on the northwest shore of the lake. From the free parking area, there is a gentle slope to the mansion, so move at a leisurely pace with elderly family members. Inside the mansion, remove your shoes and change into provided slippers. Closing times vary by season, so when visiting in the evening, confirm the reception closing time in advance.
