A Harbor Stroll in the Sea Breeze: Moored Fishing Boats and Seagulls in a Port Landscape
About this spot
A major port in the Tohoku region that has thrived as the gateway to the sea for Iwaki City. The wharf area where Aquamarine Fukushima and Iwaki-ra-ra-Mieu stand has been developed as "Aquamarine Park" with promenades and decks. Gazing at moored fishing boats and passing ships up close, surrounded by the calls of seagulls and the scent of the sea, the waterfront stroll is a moment uniquely characteristic of the port town of Onahama. Flat and easy-to-walk promenades continue throughout, so you can safely navigate with a stroller. As you venture further toward the tip of the wharf, the sea spreads across your entire view, and family photos taken against the backdrop of the blue sea surface and moored vessels become wonderful travel memories. After the aquarium and lunch, this pleasant detour is perfect for taking a leisurely afternoon walk to aid digestion under soft, gentle light.
Tips
You can start walking directly from in front of Iwaki-ra-ra-Mieu. Some sections along the waterfront lack railings, so hold hands with small children. On windy days, bring a light jacket. With little shade available, bring hats and water bottles during summer.
Best time to visit
Approximately 45 minutes. The mid-afternoon, when daylight is bright, offers beautiful sea colors and easy walking conditions.
