A Park on a Cape Jutting into the Sea: Large Play Equipment and Long Slides for Uninhibited Play

About this spot

A vast park spanning approximately 70 hectares spread across a cape jutting into the Pacific Ocean on the eastern side of Onahama Port. Popular with families with children is the "Wampaku Hiroba" (わんぱく広場) featuring an array of large compound play equipment, including a long slide that utilizes the slope—a signature attraction so popular that lines form waiting to use it. The spacious grassy expanse is perfect for spreading out a sheet and taking a break, and threading through the pine forest paths, you'll find scattered viewpoints overlooking the Pacific from atop the cliffs. Particularly impressive is the viewing deck "Ushiotsumi-dai" (潮見台) at the cape's tip, which juts out over the sea, offering a dramatic view with the ocean right below your feet that draws exclamations from adults as well. Iwaki Marine Tower also rises within the park, offering playgrounds and spectacular views all in one place—a fitting destination to conclude your afternoon in Onahama.

Tips

About 10 minutes by car from Onahama Port; the park has multiple free parking areas. Since Wampaku Hiroba and each parking area may be spread apart, check the park map and park near your destination for efficiency. If planning to enjoy the slides extensively, long pants that slide easily are recommended.

Best time to visit

Approximately 1 hour 15 minutes. The afternoon when sunlight softens is perfect timing for enjoying the play equipment.
