Pray for your family's health at the shrine honoring the daimyo who built Nanko Park
About this spot
This shrine was established on the lakeside in the Taisho period, enshrining Matsudaira Sadanobu (known as Rakuo-ko), the Shirakawa daimyo who founded Nanko Park. The industrialist Shibusawa Eiichi played an important role in the shrine's establishment, and a treasure hall displaying items associated with Sadanobu is also housed on the grounds. Many visitors come to pray for academic success and good fortune, following the example of this enlightened ruler who led the Kansei Reforms. The tree-lined approach path has a peaceful clarity that calms the heart. The shrine is just a short walk from Nanko Park's promenade, making it a natural stop along your lakeside walk. It is a shrine fitting for three generations to offer prayers together for the grandparents' long and healthy life and the grandchildren's growth.
Tips
A short walk from the Nanko Park lakeside, with parking available near the shrine. Admission and prayer are free. You can receive a goshuin (shrine stamp) at the shrine office if you bring a goshuin notebook—a nice souvenir of your trip. The approach is unpaved, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 45 minutes. The dappled afternoon sunlight filtering through the trees on the approach path is particularly serene.
