Located along Route 252 beside the Tadami River, this roadside station marks the gateway to Mishima Town. Mishima is known as a producer of Aizu paulownia wood and as the birthplace of Oku-Aizu braided crafts – intricately woven baskets and bags made from mountain grape vines and Schisandra vines. The station shop showcases handcrafted baskets, bags, and small paulownia wood items created by local artisans. The restaurant serves hearty, unpretentious mountain fare such as set meals and soba noodles made with local Aizu ingredients. Most importantly, this station marks the entrance to the walking trail that leads to the First Tadami River Bridge Viewpoint. After grabbing lunch and picking up souvenirs, check train schedules and head out for an afternoon of scenic discovery – this roadside station is the perfect base camp for an Oku-Aizu drive.

Tips

About 20 minutes by car south of Aizu-Yanai along Route 252. The station has a restaurant, gift shop, and restrooms, making it the last resupply point before heading to the viewpoint. Many braided craft items are one-of-a-kind, so if something catches your eye, don't hesitate to purchase it. The restaurant gets crowded during lunch hours, so arriving a bit early is advisable.
