About this spot

This unique shrine, located partway along Mizuki Shigeru Road, was built to pray for the peace of the yokai. It enshrines a sacred body of black granite about 3m tall along with the roots of a 300-year-old zelkova tree, and the torii gate is designed with Ittan-momen. Greeting visitors at the entrance is the famous Medama Oyaji Purification Water, a hand-washing basin where a stone sphere shaped like Medama Oyaji keeps spinning around with the force of the water, a photo spot that captivates children. You can write your wishes on yokai ema plaques or draw a yokai fortune slip, and despite its small size, the shrine grounds are packed with things to enjoy. Ask the yokai to watch over your family's health and the safety of your trip.

Tips

The shrine grounds are compact, so during busy times, simply follow the line of visitors for a smooth visit. The yokai fortune slips and ema plaques make perfect trip souvenirs for children. You can see the purification water's eyeball up close, so have your camera ready before going in.

Best time to visit

About 30 minutes. In the early afternoon, you can enjoy the lively atmosphere of the yokai town along with the bustle of the road
