Lunch at a Roadside Station at the Heart of the Double Loop Featuring Local Okuizumo Soba
About this spot
A roadside station positioned near the center of the Okuizumo Orochi Loop, one of Japan's largest double-loop roads. The restaurant serves Okuizumo soba, the local specialty, along with other mountain village delicacies. The fragrant soba noodles are wonderfully satisfying after a gorge walk. The gift shop features locally-produced Nita rice, maitake mushrooms, and other mountain delicacies and processed foods, making it perfect for souvenir shopping. From the observation spaces inside the facility and surrounding areas, positioned at approximately 700 meters elevation on a highland plateau, you can see the striking red Mitsuno Ohashi Bridge spanning the valley and the spiraling loop road—a dynamic landscape that builds anticipation for your afternoon drive.
Tips
The restaurant can be crowded at lunchtime, so arriving early in the noon hour is recommended. Viewing the full landscape of the loop bridge from the observation space beforehand will enhance your afternoon drive experience. Keep heavier souvenirs like Nita rice or local sake easily accessible in your vehicle.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour 15 minutes. Plenty of time to enjoy lunch, shopping, and the views from the observation spaces.
