Standing on a hill overlooking central Niimi, this museum is known for its collection of works by Tomioka Tessai, a master of literati painting. The compact interior has a quiet, calm atmosphere. The special exhibitions cover a wide range, from artists connected to the local area to contemporary art, offering a new encounter with every visit. Before or after viewing, head down into town for lunchtime. Niimi is home to the branded wagyu Chiya beef (千屋牛), and shops serving Chiya beef steak and rice bowls are scattered throughout the city. Between your morning cave exploration and your afternoon cave visit, enjoy a moment of filling your heart with delicious lunch and art.

Tips

Parking is available right in front of the museum. There are closure days for exhibition changes, so checking the museum's opening status in advance is reassuring. Popular Chiya beef lunch spots get crowded around midday, so entering a bit earlier or later is recommended.
