Hop Between Shops in Okayama's Most Historic Arcade for Traditional Sweets and Croquettes

About this spot

One of Okayama's most historically significant shopping streets, it flourished as a commercial hub of the castle town. The long arcade stretching from Kaminocho through Nakanocho to Shimonocho is lined with specialty shops that tempt the food-loving wanderer—old-established confectioners, fruit shops, freshly fried croquettes from butchers, aromatic bakeries, and more. The arcade's roofed passage offers the advantage of browsing regardless of weather. The surrounding area also hosts a concentration of stylish cafés, creating a unique atmosphere where tradition and novelty coexist. Meander through the streets with castle-town charm while sampling small bites from intriguing storefronts.

Tips

Access from Okayama Station via streetcar or on foot. Note that bicycles also travel through the arcade, so be mindful when eating. Confirm with shops if they dispose of trash, or carry a small bag for portability.
