Fan-Shaped Engine Shed and Turntable: Rare Diesel Locomotives Lined Up
About this spot
A railroad culture facility utilizing the former Tsuyama fan-shaped engine shed, located on the south side of Tsuyama Station. It boasts one of Japan's largest surviving fan-shaped engine sheds, and the fan-shaped structure houses rare diesel locomotives and railcars lined up, including the DE50 Type 1 locomotive found nowhere else in Japan. The turntable used to rotate vehicles remains in its original operating condition, and the Mechanisms Room explains how trains work, while the Townscape Room features a detailed diorama recreating the town of Tsuyama. A premier railroad destination in northern Okayama where not only train-loving children but also adults can rediscover their sense of wonder.
Tips
About a 10-minute walk from Tsuyama Station; if driving, a dedicated parking lot is available. Outdoor exhibits are central, so don't forget a hat and water during summer. Railroad merchandise at the reception desk is popular as souvenirs.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1.5 hours required. Right after opening, there are few people and you can leisurely photograph the fan-shaped shed and turntable from the front
