Casual Food Walk Through an Arcade with Around 200 Shops
About this spot
An arcade shopping street stretching about 577 meters eastward from Kamiyacho, representing Hiroshima's finest. Known locally as "Honndori," approximately 200 stores line both sides—from long-established confectioneries to trendy cafés, miscellaneous shops, and fashion boutiques. The covered arcade allows you to browse comfortably regardless of weather. Traditional Japanese sweet shops selling momiji manju (maple leaf cakes), stalls with freshly fried snacks, and juice stands scattered throughout make this ideal for snacking as you stroll. These light bites serve as appetizers before your lunchtime okonomiyaki. This is the main street where you can feel the pulse of Hiroshima.
Tips
When eating while walking, pause at shop fronts or benches to enjoy your snacks respectfully. Foot traffic increases before and after midday on weekends; visit shops you want to browse leisurely in the morning. Be mindful not to overeat before lunch okonomiyaki.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. Late morning features newly opened shops and relatively lighter crowds.
