Museum Time with Seto Inland Sea-Linked Masterpieces and European Art near the Station

About this spot

Located in a corner of Fukuyama Castle Park, this museum sits on verdant lawns. A striking crimson monumental sculpture in front of the entrance serves as the landmark, with an impressive view of the castle keep. The collection is anchored by three pillars: works by artists connected to the Seto Inland Sea region, Japanese modern and contemporary art, and European modern and contemporary art centered on Italy. In the permanent collection exhibitions, carefully curated masterpieces can be savored leisurely in peaceful galleries. It's a luxury unique to Fukuyama, where cultural facilities cluster near the station, to transition from the lingering impressions of castle viewing to the art world in just a few minutes' walk. It's also a pleasant interlude to rest in the lobby, where greenery is visible through glass windows.

Tips

Located on the west side of Fukuyama Castle Park, just a short walk from the castle. The permanent collection has modest admission, but special exhibitions charge separately. The museum has a restaurant where you can arrange lunch before heading to the next museum for smooth logistics. Check which days are closed in advance.
