A 1,780-Meter Free Bridge Across Cobalt Blue Sea

About this spot

A 1,780-meter bridge crossing Amakagase Strait, this free public road bridge boasts one of Japan's longest spans. The thrill of driving across cobalt blue sea created by white sandy shallows, gently curving as you go, is truly one of Japan's finest scenic drives. The bridge bends gracefully to avoid Hato Island floating midway, and the car window views shift with each passing moment. Known as a filming location for numerous car commercials, it's recommended to open the windows on clear days and feel the sea breeze. Record a video from the passenger seat to capture vividly the memories of your journey.

Tips

Stopping and parking on the bridge are prohibited, so photograph from the viewing spots on either shore. Observe the speed limit and avoid distracted driving. On windy days, be cautious of steering drift. Since crossing is free, consider driving across again in the evening if time permits.

Best time to visit

Allow approximately 30 minutes. The cobalt blue of the sea is most vivid during daylight hours, allowing you to savor the spectacular scenery simply by driving across.
