Feel the Echoes of the Castle Town Through the Awa Blue Stone Walls and Eagle Gate

About this spot

A park built on the ruins of Tokushima Castle, the former residence of the Tokushima domain, and cherished as a place of respite for local residents. The highlights are the Eagle Gate, a reconstruction of the castle's former main entrance, and the distinctive stone walls built from green schist known as Awa blue stone. The unique bluish hue of this stone is characteristic of Tokushima Castle and can be studied in detail from the walking path along the moat. If time and energy permit, climbing the walking path up Castle Hill to reach the main enclosure ruins is also recommended. Beyond stone steps lined with trees, expansive views of the former earthworks appear, allowing you to reflect on the castle's former glory when it governed the domain below.

Tips

The park features gravel paths and stone steps, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended. If climbing to the main enclosure ruins on Castle Hill, allow approximately 30 minutes round-trip. There are few shops within the park, so it's best to bring beverages purchased near the station.

Best time to visit

Approximately 1 hour required. The morning offers pleasant tree shade, and stone walls reflect beautifully in the moat's water.
