Morning Shopping and Picnic Provisions at the Gateway to the Forest Kingdom

About this spot

The core roadside station at Niji-no-Mori Koen, which spreads along the banks of the Hiromigawa River, a tributary of the Shimanto River, and is loved as a tourism base for Matsuno. The park grounds house not only the product hall but also the Osakana-kan and a glass workshop, creating an atmosphere more like a small park town than a typical roadside station. The product hall displays rows of fresh local vegetables and fruits, plus processed goods unique to a riverside town. Matsuno is also known as a peach-producing region, so you can encounter seasonal flavors throughout the year. By procuring bento boxes, bread, and beverages here, your riverside picnic at Namikaze Gorge will be greatly enriched. It's the entrance to the Forest Kingdom—a must-stop at the start of your journey.

Tips

Located right along National Route 381 and just a short walk from JR Matsumaru Station. Free parking is available. Since there are almost no shops or vending machines around Namikaze Gorge, it's essential to buy all your lunch and drinks here.

Best time to visit
