A freshwater aquarium with a river-life theme, attached to the roadside station. Centered on the fish inhabiting the Shimanto River, which the Hiromigawa flowing before it joins, it exhibits a wide range from the fish called 'akame' (phantom fish) to the massive piranhas of the Amazon. The charming otters and penguins are favorites among children and can be observed up close through glass. Despite its compact size, the close viewing distance makes it appealing—even small children can enjoy a full tour without getting bored. If you preview the creatures living in the Namikaze Gorge stream before heading there, your afternoon gorge hike will be many times more enjoyable.
Tips
Just a short walk from the roadside station's parking lot. The air-conditioned interior is ideal for taking a break on hot or rainy days. If you time your visit with the otter and penguin feeding times, you'll see them at their liveliest.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour. Right after opening, the hall is uncrowded—you can enjoy the displays at your own pace.
