A roadside station on National Route 320 in Onikicho, the only town in Japan with 'demon' (oni) in its name, neighboring Matsuno. The charming silhouette of the connected buildings with their triangular roofs, which inspired the station's name, is delightful. On the grounds, the massive demon monument 'Oniohmaru' welcomes visitors. Intricately detailed and impressively crafted, it's a hugely popular photo spot with children. The direct sales shop displays fresh local produce and processed goods, with products featuring local specialty pheasant meat being unique souvenirs. The restaurant also serves famous pheasant dishes. End your full day of play in the gorge by taking home the bounty of the mountain village.
Tips
Approximately 40 minutes by car from Namikaze Gorge. Direct sales shop inventory tends to diminish in the evening, so start shopping right away upon arrival. Taking photos with Oniohmaru is outdoors, so doing so while it's still light is recommended.
