A unique, half-underground memorial hall standing on the grounds of Oyama Tsumiki Shrine, which has ties to Besshi Copper Mine, with a roof entirely covered in azaleas. Inside, the journey of the copper mine from opening to closure is displayed in an easy-to-understand manner using ore samples, mining tools, and tunnel models. The full-scale model of the tunnel system that spread deep into the mountains commands awe at its sheer size. Outdoors, small electric locomotives and steam engines that actually served in the mines are on display, delighting train-loving children. With free admission and surprisingly substantial content, this facility is a worthy midpoint in your exploration, allowing you to deepen your knowledge of the copper mine world you experienced at Mainte Besshi.

Tips

Free admission and parking available. Check opening days in advance, as the facility observes certain closure days. The exhibits can be viewed in regular shoes, and the displays are compact enough to tour while children's focus remains intact. The outdoor locomotives are popular photo spots.
