Spectacular Views from 308 Meters: A Panorama of the Kurushima Kaikyo Bridge and Multi-Island Landscape

About this spot

This observation park sits at the summit of Kameō Mountain, which rises approximately 308 meters on the southern tip of Ōshima Island. It is renowned as the finest viewpoint on the Shimanami Kaido. The observation platform, designed by renowned architect Kengo Kuma, has a design that appears to be embedded into the mountain, blending seamlessly with the landscape. From the deck, the three suspension spans of the Kurushima Kaikyo Bridge and the islands floating in the Seto Inland Sea spread out 360 degrees before you. The path from the base is also known among cyclists as a serious hill climb course, and the panorama seen after powering your way to the summit is truly special. The gelato at the shop, made with seaweed salt, is popular as a reward for your climb.

Tips

The uphill stretch from the trailhead to the summit continues for approximately 3.7 km. Feel free to walk your bicycle during steep sections—there's no shame in it. The descent picks up speed easily, so apply brakes gradually and carefully. Bring a light layer, as wind passes through the observation deck.

Best time to visit

Approximately 1 hour required. In the crisp morning air, island shadows are clearly visible, and this location is also known as an excellent spot for sunset viewing.
