Sweeping Views of Urado Bay and Kochi Cityscape from the Observation Deck
About this spot
This expansive park spreads across Mount Godai, which rises to approximately 140 meters to the east of central Kochi. The observation deck at the summit is renowned as Kochi's finest viewing spot. Below lies mirror-like Urado Bay and the cityscape of Kochi, a water city created by the rivers flowing into the bay; on clear days, distant mountain ranges come into view. Located on the same hill as Chikurinji Temple and the Makino Botanical Garden, you can enjoy a spectacular finale to your day of flowers and prayer. The area is also famous for cherry blossoms and azaleas, and viewing Urado Bay through the seasonal flowers is particularly breathtaking. Renowned as a night-view spot, if time permits, waiting for the shifting colors of the twilight sky is also recommended.
Tips
Cars can drive up near the observation deck, and parking is free. The observation terrace offers pleasant breezes, but can feel cool, so bringing a light jacket is advisable. The parking lot becomes congested during evening and night-view hours.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 1 hour. Afternoon light brings out the shimmer of Urado Bay's waters beautifully. Staying until dusk is also worthwhile.
